There is a daily fee for telephone service in your room. You must pay a representative from Television Rental Company on a daily basis. A portable bedside TTY instrument and telephone voice amplifiers are available for free to deaf and hearing-impaired patients. Call (516) 719-2239 or talk to your nurse for a device.

Local Calls: Local calls to most areas in Nassau County are covered in the daily telephone charge. To place a local call, dial 9 plus the number. The telephone company, not the hospital, decides which exchanges are local.

Out-of-Area Calls: When calling out of area or long distance, use an outside operator and bill the call to your home, credit card or third party. These calls are not included in the daily fee. To place an out-of-area call, dial 8, wait for a dial tone, dial 0, then the area code and number. An operator will ask you how you want to pay for the call and will place the call for you.

Please Note: When you dial 8 and 0 to reach an outside operator, an additional fee will apply. The cost depends on the type of call you place. To call a department within the hospital, dial the last four digits of the number.
